This Morning was hit with a very awkward blunder just moments into the broadcast.

Hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley were discussing a poll where the British public voted on which celebrity they’d most like to befriend. Ben said: “2000 UK adults have been polled to see who they would like in their friendship group. Alison Hammond at number nine, Adele at number seven, Ed Sheeran at five, Idris Elba at three, Ryan Reynolds at two but at number one… The person who comes top of this list, the one person that everybody wants in their friendship group…”

To everyone’s surprise, money-saving expert Martin Lewis topped the list as the famous face Brits would love to have in their circle. The hosts then announced that Martin was joining them live via video link, and he popped up on-screen, ready to chat about his newfound title as Britain’s desired pal. Ben, 49, enthusiastically introduced him: “We can speak to the man of the moment, the man who is most popular in this list.”

Cat, 47, was visibly taken aback, her mouth agape as she blurted out: “No, is he on the line?” only to realise that Martin was indeed there for the virtual meet. Ben added: “We’re inviting him into our friendship group, congratulations, Martin!” However, the audio on the call failed to work.

“You see, this is one of the reasons he’s great because you can’t hear what he’s saying,” joked Ben. He added: “I think you might be muted Martin, are you muted?” Martin attempted to make light of the amusing situation as he held four fingers towards the camera. But Vanessa Feltz who appeared alongside Cat and Ben went on to share a tale about chart-topper Adele.

She said: “I was once at a party with Adele, Sid Owen’s birthday and I won’t say what she was doing with the vodka, so I won’t say a word.” It comes after host Cat was forced to apologise after she made a comment implying she was having a seizure. Alongside Ben, the pair were seen dancing before introducing American singer Meghan Trainor as one of the guests of the day.

“Nothing to see here. Yeah, I’m fine, just having a seizure,” Cat quipped while dancing to one of Meghan’s songs, All About That Bass, prompting viewers to rush to social media to slam the star for her comments. The Epilepsy Society stated that seizures “are not a laughing matter” as they condemned her joke.

Less than 24 hours later, Cat said: “I just wanted to apologise to anyone who was offended yesterday when I made a light-hearted comment about my dancing style, it really wasn’t supposed to cause any upset to anybody. But I can see why that might have been the case so I do apologise, I’m very sorry. It didn’t come from that place at all.”
