Boston Celtics Small forward Jayson Tatum has established himself as one of their most important players ever since he was selected as the third overall pick by the franchise in 2017 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft.

Tatum has been chosen for the NBA All-Star Game for five consecutive years and has become one of the most popular players in the league. The 26-year-old has maintained his excellent form in the ongoing 2023/24 season, averaging 27.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game.

He has played a key role in the Celtics’ 54-14 win-loss record this season, and despite his consistent performances, Tatum has come under criticism from many observers due to his lack of championship success.

It’s worth noting that Tatum has made only one NBA Finals appearance in his career so far in 2022, with Boston losing to eventual winners, the Golden State Warriors.

In the inaugural episode of his new podcast, which premiered on Tuesday, NBA legend, LeBron James came to the defense of Tatum, calling him an “elite” player while stating that not many players had won a championship at 26-years-old.

“I didn’t win my first championship till I was 28. I think Nikola Jokic won his first one at 27. I think Michael Jordan was 28, as well. We have a lot of expectations on Jayson Tatum, but he’s experienced a lot of winning in his career so far. Four conference Finals and a Finals appearance before the age of 26 is elite,” LeBron stated.
