The Indiana Fever couldn’t have asked for a better start to Caitlin Clark’s WNBA career. Not only did the former Iowa Hawkeyes star make the WNBA All-Star team in her first season, but she has also broken a variety of records throughout the course of the season, including becoming the first rookie in league history to record a triple-double.

Before the season began, WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes angered some fans with her comments about Clark and fellow rookie Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky.

“I don’t think Angel and Caitlin Clark will come into the league and dominate,” Swoopes said in February.

With the performances both stars have displayed this season, Swoopes couldn’t have been more wrong.

Fast forward to Tuesday, July 9, Swoopes brought up Clark again, seeming to backtrack on her previous comments for the first time by naming Clark to her All-Star starting five.

“I’m going DeWanna Bonner, Arike Ogunbowale, Nneka Ogwumike, Caitlin Clark… and Kayla McBride. That is tough, though,” Swoopes answered when asked who her starters would be for Team WNBA.

WNBA fans were surprised Swoopes picked Clark to be one of her starters and took to social media to give their thoughts.

Swoopes played 11 years in the WNBA from 1997-2008. She won four championships with the Houston Comets. After Swoopes’ departure from the team, the Comets only lasted one more year before the organization disbanded.
