Everyone’s Saying The Same Thing About Angel Reese’s Big Announcement

Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese dreams of going to the Olympics as part of Team USA. The 22-year-old rookie made that abundantly clear, with Julia Poe of Chicago Tribune reporting that it “is a milestone she hopes to accomplish.”

As an All-Star in her rookie season, averaging 14.1 points and 11.9 rebounds per game, Reese should have no problem achieving this feat if she’s able to stay consistent with her production. Her 11.9 rebounds lead the league, establishing herself as one of the most dominant players on the glass early in her career.

Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon also commented on Reese’s aspirations, mentioning, “If that is her goal, we’re going to push her toward it.”

WNBA fans online shared their honest take on Reese’s Olympic goals, with many confident she will be ready to represent the red, white, and blue soon. After all, she has already proven she’s one of the best players in the WNBA.

“She’s got this,” said one fan.

Others also reflected on Weatherspoon’s comments, sharing high praise for the Sky coach.

“Weatherspoon is very supportive of her team. It’s great to know that she has their backs and will support them in accomplishing their goals,” said another social media user.

The 2024 season marked Weatherspoon’s first season with the Sky. She previously served as an assistant coach with the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA from 2020–2023. She’s led the Sky to an 8–12 record, ranking them as the No. 8 team in the WNBA. Reese has previously talked about her relationship with the Sky coach, showing major respect for what she’s built in her short time in Chicago.

A former WNBA player herself, Weatherspoon played for the New York Liberty and Los Angeles Sparks from 1997 to 2004.

Reese has started in all 20 games she’s played during her rookie season. She’s made an immediate impact on both ends of the floor and continues to improve week by week. The former LSU standout is riding a 13-game streak of consecutive double-doubles, breaking Candace Parker’s record of 12 straight between the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

If Reese can stay on the right track and build off a tremendous rookie season, she should be able to have a successful career in the league and ultimately achieve her Olympic goals.

Here are more reactions to Reese’s dream accomplishment.
