Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese recorded her 13th consecutive double-double in a game against the Seattle Storm on Sunday, surpassing the previous record held by Candace Parker.

Reese’s stellar performance included 17 points and 14 rebounds, marking a significant achievement in her burgeoning WNBA career.

Ogwumike: Angel Reese is relentless

Nneka Ogwumike, a standout player for the Seattle Storm, took a moment to acknowledge Reese’s exceptional abilities after the game. “She’s fearless,”Ogwumike remarked.

“One thing about her is that she has an unwavering confidence. You know she’s fearless, she’s relentless, you know, when it comes to how she plays. You know you can teach technique, you can talk about how certain things look… but at the end of the day, you can have a skillful person but if they’re not relentless each time, there’s only so far that that skill can take you.”

Ogwumike also emphasized Reese’s potential longevity in the league, noting, “It’s clear that she has longevity in this league given how she plays. I think that’s something that no one can take away from.”

This high praise from a seasoned player underscores the impact Reese is making in her debut season.

Reese’s journey to this milestone began in early June against the New York Liberty, where she posted 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Since then, her consistent performance has set her apart, averaging 14.1 points and 11.9 rebounds per game.

Notably, in the game against Seattle, Reese ventured into new territory by attempting three-pointers, showcasing her willingness to expand her game and adapt.

Chicago can’t capitalize on Angel Reese’s personal success

Despite her impressive individual performance, the Sky were unable to secure a win against the Storm.

Reflecting on her streak of double-doubles, Reese said, “I don’t really think about it. I just go out there and do my job. My job is to rebound, so I’m going to go out there and do my job and rebound. I know that’s what my teammates need me to do, and I’ve committed to that.”

Reese’s contribution on the court was not just limited to rebounding.

Alongside guard Chennedy Carter, who scored a season-high 33 points, Reese helped the Sky keep pace with a balanced Seattle attack.

Despite a tightly contested first half, Chicago gained momentum in the third quarter and managed to maintain their lead, thanks in part to Reese’s clutch free throws in the game’s final moments.

Addressing the pressure-filled atmosphere and her performance under stress, Reese commented, “I haven’t always been great at free throws. It’s been obviously a work in progress for me and just continuing to just get better and be able to have teammates and coaches that trust in me. Just being able to step up there with confidence every single day in practice, shoot 50 free throws at the end, so I’m always focused for that, so that moment, it was like nothing for me.”
