The Cleveland Browns have a superstar on their defense. It’s Myles Garrett. How does the rest of the NFL see one of the best edge rushers in the league? The sentiment is clear regarding Garrett.
Via ESPN, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler broke down a survey given to league executives, coaches, and scouts. That survey ranks top 10 players at different positions. Check out his description for how they come to their rankings below.
With 2024 NFL training camps on the horizon, it is again time for the league’s true insiders to make their voices heard. ESPN surveyed league executives, coaches and scouts to help us rank the top 10 players at 11 different positions, from quarterback to cornerback and all positions in between.
This is the fifth edition of these rankings, and as usual, several players have moved up or fallen off last year’s lists.
Myles Garrett ranked as the best edge rusher in the NFL
Garrett was ranked 2nd in 2023 in ESPN’s rankings. He’s moved up to the top spot after another impressive campaign last year. It is a well-deserved nod.
One anonymous NFL coach described Garrett’s impact perfectly.
“If you don’t double team him, he’s going to f—ing kill you,”
— NFL coordinator via ESPN+
Garrett is excelling single or double teams over 30% of the time. He only trails Micah Parsons in pass rush win rate. Garrett has totaled 46 sacks over the past three seasons, and he does not seem to be slowing down.
“I don’t think he’s changed at all — he just got more help [in 2023] around him, which accentuated his play. “He’s always been the same dominant guy.”
— AFC executive
Teams prepare their offense with Garrett in mind on a particular week. that’s legitimately game-changing. You can probably say that only three or four other edge rushers hold that impact currently in the NFL, outside of the Browns star.
That being said, prepping and performing are two different tasks. NFL teams have not found a way to truly shut down Garrett on most occasions.
He remains the most dominant pass rusher in football for now. T.J. Watt and Micah Parsons are the only two in his particular conversation at the moment.
