Angel Reese grabbed five offensive rebounds in the 2024 All-Star game on Saturday
Angel Reese put on a great display in her first WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday. The Chicago Sky rookie dropped a double-double and helped Team WNBA register a 117-109 win over Team USA at the Footprint Center in Phoenix.
Reese created history as she became the first rookie ever to record a double-double in an All-Star Game.
Fans were quick to react to Reese’s performance. While several fans commended the Chicago Sky rookie, others accused her of stat padding.
“Damn what a crazy stat line for an all star game,” a fan commented.
“Angel Reese showing us all what greatness looks like. 13 points and 11 rebounds in her first All-Star game? Incredible!” commented another fan while lavishing praise on Reese.
One of the fans rued the fact that Reese didn’t get to play enough minutes to break other All-Star Game records.
“She would have broken two All Star records too if she had more minutes….but she still equaled the Rookie rebounds record…could have easily smashed the All Star record of 14 boards.”
One of the fans questioned Reese’s talent while firing shots at her rebounding skill.
“Angel Reese shoots 42% on 2’s for the season and has 50% more offensive rebounds than any other player in the league due to rebounding her own misses. I have no clue where she ranks talent wise in the WNBA, but if that’s how you’re getting your double-doubles, that’s pretty lame.”
A couple of fans accused the Chicago Sky rookie of stat padding in an All-Star Game.
“Stat padding in an All-Star game have some shame,” an X user said.
“Statpad, not impressed,” commented another fan.
Angel Reese didn’t start the game for Team WNBA but made a huge impact coming off the bench. The former LSU superstar scored 12 points on 5-10 shooting from the field in 17:53 minutes and grabbed 11 rebounds. Five of Reese’s 11 boards were on the offensive end.
The rookie shot 0-of-2 from the 3-point range and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Reese also recorded one steal and one block, and was a bundle of energy throughout the game.
Angel Reese voices desire to play in Olympics with Caitlin Clark
The 2024 WNBA All-Star Game witnessed Angel Reese teaming up with Caitlin Clark for the first time. During the game, Reese was quizzed about playing alongside Clark.
“It’s all cool. When she gets the ball, I’m running to look for the ball because she’s gonna throw it. She’s been great to play with. I mean, the future, we’re gonna be playing together a lot. Hopefully, in 4 years, we can be in the Olympics together. I’m excited,” Reese said.
Reese and Clark linked up for a basket with 6:40 remaining in the fourth quarter. Clark ventured into the paint and dropped a pass to Reese under the basket. The Sky rookie made the easy lay-up to finish the play.
