Taking on Team USA’s Big 4 is a sure ticket to fame. At least Dwyane Wade is ensuring it. As the NBC commentator, he had the ringside seat to the bout – correction – front-row seat to the on-court incident between a referee and the team’s biggest stars.

The incident went down when the officiant penalized Anthony Davis during the game against South Sudan. Instantly, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry crowded the referee to protest.

That epic sight was captured on camera along with the ref’s ‘I’m surrounded by basketball superstars’ face.

That meme-worthy image went viral on social media and landed on D-Wade’s feed. It wasn’t enough he was on the scene, Wade had to pile on the jokes.

He’s gonna be a local legend after this one,” Wade crowned the ref, Takaki Kato, who came out unscathed after taking on some star power four vs one.

We can’t vouch locally but this ref’s turning into a viral online legend for sure.

AD got the call after his elbow rammed into Wenyen Gabriel’s abdomen while Team USA was up 77-61 with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Davis told the official it was an accident but he needed a little reinforcement. So in came the big guns.

Wade knew this is Internet gold that according to another insider, he said, “I hope he got that photo.” Kato will have plenty of options to memorialize this moment. That scene was captured from multiple angles which The Flash would love.

Even Wade’s colleague, Noah Eagle couldn’t resist pointing out this is a generational picture, referring to the live broadcast.

Think about the four players right there that are pleading to Takaki Kato, a 10-year FIBA veteran,” Eagle said during the live CNBC broadcast.

You’ve got Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, and LeBron James, all on the 75th anniversary team, trying to tell you that your call is incorrect.”

Whether that call was wrong or not, this game provided a meme and a win. Despite the team playing at its worst so far, USA coasted to a 103-86 landslide win and qualified for the quarterfinals.

But continuing from the opening game, it does show a pattern of Team USA vs international refs.

Dwyane Wade has a front row seat to the fun

With several NBA stars across multiple teams, the players have shown a hard time adjusting to international officiating.

Even AD’s Lakers teammate, Rui Hachimura had some dodgy calls to contend during the Japan vs France game. Team USA had its own fouls to argue while playing against Serbia.

On one instance, the refs couldn’t decide on a foul committed on KD because of ‘techinical issues.’ The situation had head coach, Steve Kerr, extremely amused.

It was in this same game that Bron had a solo argument with the refs then.

He may have figured that backup is good in these situations and sparked some unintentional entertainment. D-Wade’s bringing his own humor to his sportscasting debut.

Fans are loving both his witty play-by-play and online side commentary. Now that’s Team USA’s legend.
