Famous self-defense icon Kyle Rittenhouse recently reversed course on comments he made stating he would not be voting for former President Donald Trump in light of his record on the Second Amendment. However, Rittenhouse eventually reversed course on his commitment to write in Ron Paul, claiming that he is now all-in for Trump.
Just hours after his controversial anti-Trump statement was uploaded to social media, Rittenhouse gave an update on his prior remarks. He claimed that after speaking with Trump’s team, he was confident that Trump would defend the Second Amendment. Rittenhouse further claimed that his critical comments were “ill-informed” and “unproductive,” while emphasizing that he is “100% behind Donald Trump.”
“Over the past 12 hours, I’ve had a series of productive conversations with members of the Trump’s team and I am confident he will be the strong ally gun owners need to defend our Second Amendment rights. My comments made last night were ill-informed and unproductive. I’m 100% behind Donald Trump and encourage every gun owner to join me in helping send him back to the White House,” he followed up after his critical comments.
Rittenhouse said in his original statement, “Hi, I’m Kyle Ritterhouse, outreach director for Texas Gun Rights. A lot of people are upset that I said I’m going to be writing in Ron Paul for President of the United States. And that is true. I will be writing in Ron Paul. Unfortunately, Donald Trump had bad advisors making him bad on the Second Amendment, and that is my issue.”
The gun rights activist maintained that the Republican Party needs to have a candidate that fully supports the Second Amendment. He continued, “If you cannot be completely uncompromisable on the Second Amendment, I will not vote for you. And I will write somebody else in. We need champions for the Second Amendment, or our rights will be beaming away and rode it each day. I support my decision that I have no takebacks.”
Despite Kyle Rittenhouse’s assertion that Trump was not sufficiently backing the Second Amendment, The American Tribune reported on comments from the former president before the National Rifle Association (NRA) in Dallas, Texas, earlier this year in May. The Republican presidential candidate warned the audience that gun rights are “on the ballot” in the upcoming election. “Let there be no doubt, the survival of our Second Amendment is very much on the ballot. It’s under siege,” he said.
Trump further explained, “We need the Second Amendment for safety. Forget about going hunting and all the things you do — we need it for safety. Because you know the bad guys are not giving up their guns. The bad ones are not giving up their guns.” He later said, “The NRA has stood with me from the very beginning and with your vote, I will stand strong for your rights and liberties. And for more years in the White House. We’re going to do things like nobody can believe we’re going to turn our country around. We’re going to quite simply make America great again.”
