Angel Reese continues to make waves on social media after Atlanta rapper Lakeyah name-dropped her as “Rookie of the Year” in a new song.
Lakeyah’s new song, posted on social media, features the line, “Rookie of the year, I feel like Angel Reese.”
Reese, who has been a standout in her rookie season, responded with enthusiasm on X, formerly Twitter, expressing her love for Lakeyah’s shoutout.
She tweeted, “i love me some @lakeyah” followed by a kiss emoji.
Lakeyah’s support for Reese isn’t new. In a previous June tweet, the rapper referred to Reese as her “Louisiana freak” and praised her as a “10,” indicating the love she has for the WNBA star. The crossover between music and sports is bringing more attention to Reese’s impressive rookie season.
The recognition from Lakeyah comes amid a heated debate over the WNBA Rookie of the Year award, where Reese is a top contender alongside Caitlin Clark. Both players have delivered impressive performances this season, making the competition for the award one of the most closely contested in recent years.
Reese, playing for the Chicago Sky, is averaging 13.5 points and 12 rebounds per game. Her consistency and ability to dominate the boards earned her the WNBA’s June Rookie of the Month awards and a recent Player of the Week honor.
Clark, on the other hand, has also had an impressive season with the Indiana Fever. Known for her well-rounded game, she is top 20 in scoring and rebounds, and the top in assists per game in the league. Clark made history as the first rookie to record a triple-double and was named Rookie of the Month in May.
The WNBA season has seen both Reese and Clark thrive under the spotlight, making their All-Star selections a testament to their immediate impact.
With Reese leading in offensive rebounds and Clark orchestrating plays from the perimeter, their contrasting styles have fueled the debate over who deserves the Rookie of the Year title.
