Edelman has shone some light on Bill Belichick’s coaching style

NEW England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski says Tom Brady’s greatness is down to consistency.

Brady, 46, and Gronk, 35, are the most prolific quarterback-tight end duo of all time.

They won seven Super Bowls together across spells with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brady continued playing until he was 45, leaving many people asking what was the secret to his longevity – and his longtime friend has the answer.

“You really don’t see that anymore in this generation, he really practices what he preaches,” Gronk told former teammate Julian Edelman, 38, on the Games with Names podcast.

“There are no and, ifs, or buts about Tom Brady being Tom Brady.

“What he puts out there, what he preaches, he practices it

“There’s no doubt about it. There are a lot of people out there on social media, or at a lecture, they’re reminiscing about, ‘This is what you gotta do to be great, this is what you gotta do to be successful.’

“Well Tom Brady does what he says on a daily basis.

“He takes care of his body, he takes care of his mind, he competes, and that’s what makes him so great.”

Edelman, who also enjoys a stellar relationship with Brady, nodded his head in agreement throughout.

“And he’s the ultimate family guy on a daily basis,” he added.

On the same podcast, Edelman said Travis Kelce’s infamous confrontation with Andy Reid would not have happened under Bill Belichick.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 34, shouted in his head coach’s face and bumped into him following Isiah Pachecho’s fumble in this year’s Super Bowl.

Edelman was asked how Belichick would have reacted if Gronkowski had thrown a similar tantrum.

And the former wide receiver – a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Pats – insisted Gronk would not have dared to challenge his coach in that way.

“No one’s touching Bill,” Edelman said.

‘Don’t do your job’

Bill Belichick is known for telling his former New England Patriots players to ‘do your job.’

But he took aim at Rob Gronkowski during the Tom Brady roast.

“You know, a lot of people connect me with a saying called, ‘Do your job.’ And telling people to do their jobs,” Belichick said.

“Gronk, I’ve been watching on Fox NFL Sunday and I’m begging you – stop doing your job.

“Do another job. Do somebody else’s job!”

“With the amount of respect that he demanded on a daily basis, like when he came into the auditorium, people got up, shoulders were back, ears were pinned.

“That’s the kind of presence he has.”

Edelman played alongside Gronk for nine seasons and added that while the ex-tight end was a formidable competitor, he was not the kind of person who would scream at a coach.

Reid, 66, is also well respected by his players but has a more approachable management style.

“They have a different relationship,” Edelman added.

“They’re a lot closer. He’s an offensive coach with an offensive player, so their dynamic is very different from the one Belichick had with Gronkowski.”
