Angel Reese admits she wants to be teammates with Caitlin Clark in resurfaced clip as the two WNBA rivals prepare to team up at All-Star game
Before making headlines last month with a brutal foul on Caitlin Clark – but well after directing an infamous on-court diss at her rival in the 2023 NCAA Championship – Angel Reese actually wanted to be teammates with the Iowa Hawkeyes legend.
‘Oh my gosh, I love Caitlin,’ Reese told reporters in a resurfaced clip from the fall of 2023 as she was beginning her final season at LSU. ‘We’ve been competing since we were in AAU. AAU days, we always competed. I remember she was at All Iowa Attack, and we would play each other in AAU. It was always fun and always competitive.
‘One day, hopefully, me and her can be teammates because she is a great player and a great shooter and a great person and a great teammate,’ Reese added.
Turns out Reese will get her wish at the upcoming WNBA All-Star game, when the two rookies will suit up together against the US Olympic team on July 20 in Phoenix.
Clark, the Indiana Fever rookie sensation, has expressed some trepidation about teaming with the Chicago Sky power forward, but not due to any animosity between the two: ‘I know people will be really excited about it, but I hope it doesn’t take away from everyone else. This is a huge accomplishment for everybody on Team USA and everyone on Team WNBA. They all deserve the same praise.’
"I love Caitlin… One day, hopefully, we could even be teammates."

Angel Reese recently set a WNBA record with her 10th-consecutive double-double

Reese’s feelings towards Clark have changed somewhat now that they’re both in the pros.
Aside from Reese’s flagrant foul against Clark on June 16, she’s repeatedly reminded reporters that there are more than one notable rookies playing in the WNBA this season.
Reese also claimed that Clark benefits from a ‘special whistle’ from officials.
Of course, Reese famously directed wrestler John Cena’s ‘You Can’t See Me’ hand gesture at Clark during the 2023 NCAA championship – a move the Iowa star had directed at another player earlier in the tournament.
Clark and Reese are already inextricably linked in women’s basketball history.
Their 2023 NCAA Finals matchup, when Reese’s LSU Tigers won a national championship over Clark’s Hawkeyes, remains one of the highest-rated games in the sport’s history. And their April 4 rematch in the Elite 8 ultimately topped that mark.

Since going first and seventh in the April draft, the two have had a similar impact on the WNBA, which is recording record viewership in 2024.
And they haven’t exactly disappointed on the court.
Reese recently recorded her WNBA record 10th-consecutive double-double, while Clark has moved into 18th in the league in scoring at 16 points a game.
And aside from some recent shooting woes (Clark is 3 for 17 from deep over her last two outings), the former Hawkeyes star has helped the Fever to wins in six of their last eight games.
Currently the Fever (8-13) and Sky (7-11) are battling for the eighth and final spot in the WNBA playoffs.
